Famous Canadian Grade 6 Home project

Famous Canadian Biography.

Select a famous Canadian that has influenced the world through their work in: peace, government, science, or action.

Research your person using the Internet, books and encyclopedia Collect data and summarize in your own words as best you can. Looks for information that explains the person’s date of birth, hometown, awards, education, family, training, a photograph, career development, and how the person became famous. Remember your parents can provide assistance, with materials and research, but the final product needs to reflect your independent effort.
To write a biography you should: Select a person you are interested in. Find out the basic facts of the person's life. Start with the, Internet, encyclopedia and almanac.
Think about what else you would like to know about the person, and what parts of the life you want to write most about. Some questions you might want to think
about include:

  1. What makes this person special or interesting?
  2. What kind of effect did he or she have on the world? other people?
  3. What are the adjectives you would most use to describe the person?
  4. What examples from their life illustrate those qualities?
  5. What events shaped or changed this person's life?
  6. Did he or she overcome obstacles? Take risks? Get lucky?
  7. Would the world be better or worse if this person hadn't lived? How and why?

Steps in Planning

Select a white 11 X17 inch sized sheet of paper. (Supplied by the school)

On one side of the paper, write the famous person’s name at the top centre. Write your name and date at the bottom right side of the page. Underneath the person’s name, skip one line and then begin the biography. Use headings to organize your ideas. Heading will have a paragraph specific to that heading. This is to ensure your information is organized and logical. Example: Education, Birth Place, Awards, etc.

On the other side of the paper, you will create a picture of the famous person. The picture can be in black and white or coloured. The picture must fill the entire page. You do not have to have just a portrait of the person; you can add elements of what they do into the picture. Example: Include a picture of the space shuttle, the moon, some stars to a picture of Roberta Bondar, a famous Canadian Astronaut.
